We are the family of St. Peter the Apostle Parish, a communion of cultures united by the love of Christ. We reach out to all through prayer, spiritual formation, compassion and service. We are a stewardship parish, striving together to be "the hands and feet of Christ" on Earth.
3rD Sunday of EAsterJohn 21: 1-19 I have never thought that Peter was a very good fisherman. Why else would he walk away from fishing to follow Jesus? Maybe the work was just too hard, and he wanted to find something easier. That would explain why he wanted to go fishing after the whole ordeal of seeing the death of Jesus and feeling helpless to stop it. Going back, back to fishing or back to old ways when the challenge of the Gospel hits us in the face, will not and does not work. He and his friends think they can they can just return to doing things their own their way. It does not work. There is an important message in this Gospel for those of us who think we can do things our way when we feel like it. Having come to know Jesus, nothing can ever be the same in ways we think and act. We may have thought our lives were about filling our nets, bank accounts, and portfolios. But, having come to know Jesus, there might be some question about this. Peter wanted a net full of fish. Jesus wanted a net full of people. If we go back to that old thinking and those old ways, an empty net is all we will have. If we think we can do anything we want on our own there will be empty nets. The Gospel suggests that if we do not follow the instructions of the master, it will all be for nothing. We will end up with empty nets.
